Are You Entering Heaven Tonight?

“The ministry of the high priest under the Old Covenant belonged to the holy of holies, where he alone could officiate, and so the ministry of Christ belongs to heaven, where He alone can be a priest.” (Geerhardus Vos, “The Priesthood of Christ in Hebrews,” Redemptive History and Biblical Interpretation, p. 160).

“The contemplation of Christ’s greatness in verse 14 [of Hebrews 4] might lead people to have lofty ideas of Him as One who could not have any feeling for them; therefore the author goes on to assure them: ‘For. . . we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities. . . .’” (Geerhardus Vos, The Teaching of the Epistle to the Hebrews, p.102).

(Preparing for a joint service this Sunday evening, with Trinity Presbyterian Church, OPC, joining Grace United Reformed Church in their building. The text is Hebrews 4:14-16, and the message focuses on the ascension of our Lord, expounded in Lord’s Day 18 of the Heidelberg Catechism.)
